Chewing in itself is a natural and normal activity for dogs. The problem lies not in the chewing but in what the dog chews.
Puppies chew to alleviate teething irritation and adult dogs engage in destructive chewing due to reasons ranging from anxiety, boredom, dental problems or dietary deficiencies.
Chewing problems are easier to prevent than correct. At Canine Path we will teach a variety of measures to address chewing in puppies and dogs.
These interventions range from puppy proofing the environment – particularly hazards like wires or bottles of chemicals – to behavioral training.
Inappropriate chewing can be discouraged by redirecting their attention to appropriate chew toys and providing praise when they go for said object. Puppies and dogs will be taught what objects are for them and what aren’t.
